[00:12.92]Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" [00:18.63]describes a chaotic White House, [00:22.12]a president who was not prepared to win in 2016, [00:27.16]and Trump aides who question his intelligence and ability to lead. [00:34.44]Trump has dismissed the book, saying it is full of lies. [00:39.88]On Thursday, lawyers representing the president [00:43.80]called on the book's publishers to stop the book's release. [00:48.37]They also sent a "cease and desist" letter to Stephen Bannon, [00:54.04]Trump's former chief strategist. [00:56.92]The book includes critical comments Bannon reportedly said [01:02.08]about Trump and Trump's family. [01:05.76]"Fire and Fury" had been set to be released January 9. [01:10.96]Instead, it began sales early. [01:14.32]It is now the top-selling book on Amazon.com. [01:19.36]In Washington, D.C., people waited outside bookstores [01:24.16]in extremely cold weather to buy the book. [01:28.40]One popular bookstore, KramerBooks, [01:31.52]began selling "Fire and Fury" at midnight Friday. [01:36.64]It and another local bookstore reportedly sold out by 10 in the morning. [01:43.48]Wolff spent 18 months reporting on both the Trump campaign [01:48.61]and the Trump White House. [01:50.88]He reported from inside Trump Tower in New York City [01:55.56]and later from inside the White House in Washington. [02:00.28]On Twitter Thursday, Trump said the book is "full of lies, [02:05.12]misrepresentations and sources that don't exist." [02:10.24]He also said he never spoke with Wolff for the book, [02:14.56]and turned down his request for an interview many times. [02:20.32]However, Wolff said Friday on NBC's "Today" show [02:25.84]that he had talked to the president for the book. [02:30.24]"I absolutely spoke to the president. [02:33.28]Whether he realized it was an interview or not, [02:37.08]I don't know, but it was certainly not off the record," he said. [02:42.58]He said he spent about three total hours talking with the president. [02:49.16]Wolff says the book is mostly based on talks with people [02:53.56]who have worked closely with Trump. [02:56.09]He said he has records and notes [02:59.32]from about 200 interviews with people [03:02.52]connected to the Trump campaign or Trump White House. [03:06.96]Wolff has confirmed he has audio recordings of some of those talks. [03:13.60]Wolff also said on the "Today" show that, [03:16.84]"100 percent of the people around him [Trump]... [03:20.52]they all say he is like a child." [03:24.24]Some parts of "Fire and Fury" were released earlier this week. [03:30.36]They led to a vicious public fight between Trump and Bannon. [03:35.48]In one passage, Bannon describes a meeting [03:39.52]between a Russian lawyer and top Trump campaign aides [03:44.76]-- including Trump's own son and son-in-law [03:49.36]-- as "treasonous" and "unpatriotic." [03:53.80]After the passage was published, Trump said in a statement, [03:58.92]"Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my presidency. [04:03.88]When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind." [04:10.84]Michael Wolff is a longtime writer and reporter based in New York City. [04:17.16]He has been a media critic and columnist for USA Today, [04:22.76]The Hollywood Reporter, New York Magazine and Vanity Fair. [04:28.88]In 2009, Wolff published "The Man Who Owns the News," [04:34.36]a book about media business leader Rupert Murdoch. [04:39.32]Just before its publication, Murdoch publicly questioned [04:44.32]some of Wolff's reporting in that book. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
